The Red Devils returned to European glory after two straight UEFA Champions League losses against Barcelona in 2009 and 2011.

Manchester United's return to glory after nine years of disappointment in European competitions ended today, and their win against Ajax helped them set things in order when it comes to continental and domestic relevance.

Aside from Jose Mourinho's impressive European record, the Red Devils have ended the dominance exercized by Spanish teams in European competitions. Bayern Munich was the last non-Spanish team to lift a continental trophy almost 4 years ago. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla were the teams that dominated European competitions for 1250 days, with that streak coming to an end today.

Furthermore, Manchester United has taken the lead as the most winning English team in history, as they managed to break a tie with Liverpool following today's UEL title.

With today's win, the English side has secured a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. If that wasn't enough, the 2017 UEFA Super Cup clash will feature the Red Devils against another European football titan: Juventus or Real Madrid.
