Two highly decorated tacticial foes meet in clash between English giants

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho and Manchester United will be keen to avoid a repeat of the last time the two sides met. That result saw the Red Devils humiliated 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea again got the better of Mourinho's side by beating them 1-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Mourinho, of course, was far from impressed with his team's performancei n their recent match, which saw them have to settle for a 1-1 draw with Anderlecht in the Europa League.

The Red Devils currently sit in sixth spot, six points off a top four spot. And whilst they have a handful of games in hand, they have been far from impressive in the league. Manchester United have drawn their past three home games against Bournemouth, West Brom and Everton, and will be hoping to avoid another negative result at Old Trafford.

The hosts also have quite a few faces unavailable due to injury: Juan Mata is a definite absentee for the rest of the season. The Spaniard is also likely to be joined on the long-term treatment table by Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, whilst skipper Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young are others who may play no part in this match.

Chelsea

The Blues have been dealt a major blow ahead of this crunch clash. Reports indicate that Asmir Begovic will be the man in between the posts, as first-choice shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois has apparently suffered an ankle injury and has been ruled out for this game. This will represent the first Premier League start of the season for Begovic, and fans will be naturally hoping that Belgian star Courtois will be able to make a swift return as he is in danger of also missing their upcoming FA Cup semi-final.

Given that Tottenham have reduced the gap to four points after thrashing Bournemouth 4-0, the onus will be on Chelsea to win this titanic tie. The Blues did suffer a hiccup as they were surprisingly defeated by Crystal Palace, but other from that have been in pretty strong form. They have won four out of their last five and have suffered just four defeats - only Tottenham, who have lost three, have done better.

In terms of personnel, Courtois is a definite absentee, as was noted earlier, whilst David Luiz is still dealing with a knee injury sustained by a bad tackle by Sergio Aguero (the Manchester City striker was red-carded afterwards). Cesar Azpilicueta is also recovering from a broken hand, but both defenders are expected to feature later today.
