The German playmaker made worrying remarks, as he grows closer to the final year of his contract.

Mesut Ozil’s future at Arsenal remains a worry for the club. Whilst fans argue over whether Arsene Wenger should stay or not, the German grows closer to the final year of his contract.

The Assist King, who is yet to return from injury for the Gunners, sat down with Sport Bild (per Eurosport) to discuss his current status in north London. Although the World Cup winner admitted to being happy at the Emirates, he made a few remarks which could be perceived as hinting to an exit.

Firstly, the 28-year-old insisted he feels proud when Gooners chant his name, but claimed he is singled out more often than not when the club experience a dip in form. “When the team’s on a bad run, somebody needs to be singled out, sadly most of the time it’s me,” Ozil revealed to Bild.

Then the topic of a return to the Bundesliga was brought up. Ozil, who rose to fame for his lovely assists at Real Madrid, owes his roots to Schalke and Werder Bremen.

"I don't want to exclude that [a return to Germany]," he added "Many family members - my mother especially - would welcome it if I were closer to home.

"I still have a year on my contract and I love this club [Arsenal]. At the moment, everything is still open."

There has also been talk of a second spell with Los Blancos, where he could rejoin buddies Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ozil confessed to still being a Madridista.

“Of course my heart beats for Real. I played there and still have many friends to this day in the team and in the club. Therefore I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Real, even against Bayern.”

Arsenal are in for a hectic summer. Alexis Sanchez will most likely leave, the Gunners will face a battle to keep hold of their German playmaker, and might need to find a new manager.
