Liverpool looking to take advantage of injury ravaged Burnley to make push towards top three

Liverpool

With many of the other teams - including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Manchester United - all taking part in the FA Cup, Liverpool will temporarily have a game advantage over their fellow big sides. All of the aforementioned teams are taking a break from the Premier League for now, meaning that Jurgen Klopp's men could temporarily open up a five point gap on Arsenal and close the gap from four to one on Tottenham with a win against Burnley. Although it will be until the other teams resume Premier League action, it still could give Liverpool a psychological boost as they seek to get back on track after some difficulties earlier this campaign.

Having lost the reverse fixture earlier this season, the Reds will be loathe to allow a newly promoted side to embarrass them at home. They haven't managed to lose at Anfield to a side who had played in the Championship the season prior since Blackpool did so in the 2010/2011 term, and fortunately for them, their upcoming opponents have one of the worst away records in the top flight this campaign. In terms of injuries, Danny Ings is a definite absentee, whilst skipper Jordan Henderson is still in doubt due to a heavily bruised foot.

Burnley

By contrast, Burnley come into this game having a whole slew of injuries. The Clarets will be missing Dean Marney, Steven Defour, and likely Joey Barton, whilst Tom Heaton could return after recovering from flu and Ashley Barnes comes back into the fold after serving a ban.

With just two, yes two away points, Burnley are only helped from being in the bottom three thanks to their solid home form. So, despite winning the reverse fixture, it goes without saying that the Clarets will be in for a tough test as Liverpool aim to avoid suffering what would be a rather shocking and embarrassing loss in front of their home support.
