Sorry, Barcelona. The Brazilian playmaker is ready to stay an Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Barcelona and all the other European elites keen on signing Philippe Coutinho have been handed a fatal blow, as the Brazilian has finally put pen to paper on a new deal with Liverpool.

The Reds made the announcement on Wednesday, which will be a huge boost for the club and its supporters ahead of their League Cup semi-final clash with Southampton. Although the announcement on the club’s official website gave little to no details, the Mirror reported some interesting claims.

According to the British publication, there is no buyout clause in the new deal which Barcelona or any other suitor could trigger. The length of this new deal is believed to be five-and-a-half years.

Furthermore, Coutinho will receive a bumper new salary once the deal kicks into effect on July 1, 2017. His new wages could be on the border of £200,000-plus a week, which would take him level with Luis Suarez as their highest paid player in history.

The former Inter Milan midfielder told Liverpool’s official website: “I am very happy to sign a new contract here. It is a club that I am very grateful to and this shows my happiness here. I will work much harder to repay the belief shown in me.

“I signed this new contract to stay here for a few more years because it’s a great honour for me. It gives me great happiness because I was welcomed here with open arms by everyone at the club and the supporters right from my first day. I am very thankful to this football club for everything.”

Having made his return from injury in the first leg clash with Southampton, he could start in the return leg. Liverpool trail the Saints 1-0, but have a game at Anfield to reverse the deficit.
