The former English International criticized the Red Devils' summer signing, as he didn't believe he was a 'long-term type of player'.

Prior to Wednesday's match against Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho stepped up and defended Zlatan Ibrahimovic from a pundit's criticism.

Days ago, Michael Owen criticized Ibrahimovic's performances with Manchester United, as he hadn't been as influential as fans expected him to be. After hearing this claims, Mourinho took a dig at the former English International, who played his final seasons with the Red Devils a few years ago.

"Zlatan, in spite of your colleague Michael Owen who doesn't like him, will score more goals in one season than Michael Owen in three seasons at Manchester United," Mourinho stated in an interview with BT Sport, where the former striker works.

"He scored 17 goals in three seasons. Zlatan's almost there in six months, he is not a bad choice for us," the tactician added.

Owen has repeatedly criticized Mourinho's tactics since he joined Manchester United.

Even after experiencing one of the longest goal scoring droughts in his career, Ibrahimovic leads the Red Devils in that department, scoring twice as many goals as Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford when it comes to EPL games.

In fact, Owen's most successful goal scoring season for Manchester United saw him score 9 goals in all comps, something that Ibra has already surpassed.
