Los Blancos managed to increase the gap between them and Barcelona with their 3-0 win against Atlético, but there is more to be told about the Spanish top flight.

Matchday 12 in La Liga will go down in history as one of the most controversial of all time. The clash between the Spanish capital giants Real Madrid and Atlético left some incredible memories, while Barcelona saw their chances of catching Los Blancos fade away after dropping points against Málaga.

Perhaps the biggest winner of the weekend is Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid's star completed a superb performance by scoring a hat-trick, shutting up his haters, becoming the object of some of the funniest viral memes in recent history, while also reaching the top of the goal scoring charts, sharing that honour with Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi.

"La Pulga" has scored in more games, which help him in the race to win the 2016-2017 "Pichichi" award.

But what about the assists department? How close or how far are football's biggest names from the top? You'd be shocked to know that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo are close to the top, and other top-caliber players such as Neymar are fighting for a spot, but not eve in La Liga's Top 5 providers. After some classy games, Pablo Piatti managed to equalize Toni Kroos' total of six assists, good enough for the first place. And to think the German has been ruled out due to an injury!

One of the most in-form teams this season is Sevilla. Sitting third at the time, the Andalucian team has experienced quite a resurgence under coach Jorge Sampaoli, who seems determined to make his team play the same way regardless of the pitch they're playing in.

Atlético Madrid's players and fans will have to live up with the consequences of Saturday's loss against bitter-rivals Real Madrid. Los Colchoneros weren't able to close their stadium on a high when facing the league leaders, as this will be the final Derby to be played at the stadium they called "home" since 1966.

With this weekend's results,it seems like Real Madrid has it up to them to win the title. Los Blancos are still unbeaten under Zidane this season, but their fans remain dubious about whether they can survive the amount of games and injuries each season brings. Regardless of their doubts, coach Zidane keeps proving his worth for the Spanish capital giants, as this stats prove.

The upcoming week will be extremely crucial for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético. Los Blancos face a rather "easy" game against Sporting Gijón, while Barcelona will travel to San Sebastián to face Real Sociedad. In the meantime, Atlético will need to bounce back against Osasuna, as they currently sit nine points behind the league leaders.

With El Clásico just around the corner, which team will get to the stellar match in better shape? We'll be sure to keep you posted.
