The Portuguese manager was able to overcome a disappointing weekend result against Chelsea by eliminating the Sky Blues.

Mourinho may still need a few games to level the score between them, but he is getting closer when it comes to knockout matches.

During Wednesday's derby, Mourinho achieved just his fourth win against any team coached by Pep Guardiola. As of now, the Spaniard has beaten Mou's teams eight times, adding six draws to their tally.

But when it comes to knockout games between them, this is Mourinho's third win against any team coached by Guardiola. Mou's Inter beat Barcelona en route to the 2010 UEFA Champions League title, while adding another KO win in the 2011 Copa del Rey final. The only league victory for a team coached by Mourinho against Pep's crews came during the 2011-2012 season, as Los Blancos defeated Guardiola's men at Camp Nou 2-1.

This was also a match Manchester City's supporters will try to forget soon. The Citizense were unable to direct a least one shot on goal for the first time in 19 EFL Cup games. To make matters worse, this is the team's largest winless run in almost a decade.
