There is nothing better to hype a game than rumors of how a club’s star player that is being targeted by their opponents could have joined a third club.
Confusing? That was the circumstance Borussia Dortmund’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found himself in when Arsenal came calling for his services, with Real Madrid also linked with the Gabonese ace.
This according to El Confidencial, claiming in a recent report – ahead of BVB vs. Real Madrid – that the Gunners tabled a bid for the speedy attacker last winter.
The north London outfit were reportedly keen on a striker and thus turned their attention to the Bundesliga hotshot last January, offering €60m for the striker.
Where did it all go wrong? According to the report, Thomas Tuchel’s side would only entertain the thought of selling their prized assist if Arsenal put €100m on the table.
Of course, it is unlikely that the striker would have agreed to an Emirates Stadium switch, especially since he revealed that Los Blancos are the only club he would leave BVB for.
The German giants welcome Les Merengues on Tuesday in the Champions League, as the title holders are in search of their first Signal Iduna Park.
