Atlético Madrid fans won't have Diego Simeone around until 2020,as the Argentinean coach plans to leave Los Colchoneros by the end of the 2017-2018 season.
A report by Spanish newspaper El Confidencial suggests that "El Cholo" will leave the Spanish capital team in two years in order to coach in the Premier League. Another option for Simeone would be coaching the Argentinean National Team, something that was close to happen this summer.
In fact, the Spanish newspaper revealed that Simeone would have left the club if Los Colchoneros had won the UEFA Champions League last May.
Simeone was one of the top candidates to take over the Argentinean National Team coaching job after Gerardo Martino resigned.
Simeone's relationship with the club's execs, particularly with Enrique Cerezo, was damaged after the continental tournament's final, following the coach's claims about whether he would continue with the team or not. Since then, Simeone's future with the team has been in doubt, with teams such as Chelsea and PSG willing to lure him away from La Liga.
Simeone has won it all with Atlético Madrid since his arrival in 2011.He won the UEFA Europa League, a La Liga title, the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. The only major trophy that has escaped him while coaching Los Colchoneros is the UEFA Champions League, which he has lost twice against Real Madrid.
