Will Atletico Madrid bounce back with a win?
Atletico Madrid’s hopes of emulating the 2013/14 season in which they won La Liga got off to a shaky start, as they were the only team from last season’s top three not to win their opening game.
Defending champions Barca thrashed Real Betis 6-2 in Mathcday 1, whilst Real Madrid also earned a routine 3-0 win over Real Sociedad.
Two goals in stoppage time saw Los Rojiblancos draw 1-1 with Deportivo Alaves at their very own Vicente Calderon Stadium. The game, however, did have a bright side, as summer signing Kevin Gameiro opened his goalscoring account for the Madrid giants.
El Cholo hailed his players after sharing the spoils, telling the club's official website (as per ESPN FC): "The team showed a good attitude and played with intensity. We tried every way we could to open up the game.
"The team is strong, with lots of enthusiasm and energy.''
Atletico could welcome back Antoine Griezmann to their squad after seeing out his suspension for round one. The club announced via Twitter that the Frenchman is in their squad for Saturday’s trip.
