But Leicester look to offer the Frenchman and new and improved deal to avoid losing their star midfielder.

Chelsea have been active in the summer transfer window and look to complete another marquee signing before the upcoming 2016/17 season kicks-off.

According to Le Parisien, the Blues have marched ahead of the competition and are now favorites to sign N’Golo Kante, the French midfielder who enjoyed a stellar, English Premier League-winning season with Leicester City in 2015/16.

The London giants have reportedly agreed a fee worth €35m for the 25-year-old, significantly more than the player’s actual release clause, which is worth €26m. The French, who was at UEFA Euro 2016 with Les Bleues, will put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

However, the Foxes are not yet giving up hope on keeping Kante at the King Power Stadium. According to The Telegraph, Claudio Ranieri’s side are preparing a better offer for the Frenchman, having recently turned down a £100,000-per-week offer from his current employers.

Many tipped Leicester to lose their standout players from last season to Europe’s elite, but the Premier League champions have managed to retain the service of Jamie Vardy. Furthermore, contract talks are continuing with Danny Drinkwater and Kasper Schmeichel.

With Leicester set to also compete in the Champions League, Kante will prove vital to their hopes of competing for silverware. The player, however, won’t rejoin the Foxes until the end of the month due to his involvement in the European Championship.
