Arsenal fans had quite a terrible day on Twitter when their club confirmed that they had signed Japanese striker Takuma Asano. On Saturday, we reported that the Gunners were preparing a bid for the Sanfrecce Hiroshima youngster and barely 24 hours later, the deal was confirmed.
The transfer sounded quite ridiculous to some Arsenal fans who had expected the club to sign big names in the sport in order to keep up with the competition ahead of the 2016/17 season. In their defence, club boss Arsene Wenger announced that the 21-year-old was a signing for the future but the explanation seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. He told the club's website:
“Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future. He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”
A section of football fans took to Twitter to troll their Arsenal counterparts for failing to land Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, who chose to stay with the Foxes and Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is expected to join Manchester United. With the transfer window still underway, the Gunners could still make some high-profile signings but until that happens, let’s head straight to the trolls:
