Spain could seal their spot in the next round with a win against the Turks, while Fatih Terim's men can't afford dropping points after losing their first game.

One of the top candidates to win the UEFA Euro 2016 will take center-stage this Friday, when Spain tries to seal their spot in the knockout stages against Turkey.

La Roja struggled to win their first match against the Czech Republic, getting their hands on all the points thanks to a crucial header by Gerard Piqué. Despite performing quite well and even with the last-minute win, Vicente del Bosque's men had to endure harsh criticism from fans and media, which could prompt their boss to adjust a few things against the Ottoman side.

On the other side of the pitch, Turkey needs to step it up a little bit if they want to keep their chances alive. A rather disappointing performance by Arda Turan added to the team's lack of drive up front, leaving the Turks empty-handed against a far-better Croatian side.

Team news

Spain prevailed against the Czechs thanks to an inspired performance by Andrés Iniesta, who acted like a boss in La Roja's midfield all day long. Even with such a performance by Barcelona's midfielder, coach Vicente del Bosque might be keen on making some adjustments to his starting lineup.

One of the most criticized members of the starting lineup was Celta's Nolito. The talented playmaker fell short from becoming an influential figure for the Spaniards, and he could be dropped from the Starting XI in favor of Chelsea's Pedro.

On the other side of the pitch, Turkey needs Arda Turan to get over his current funk, if they want to stand a chance against a much-more talented team. The Turkish playmaker didn't have a good season with Barcelona, failing to secure a spot in the team's starting lineup, and that reflected on his poor performance last Sunday.

With no injury concerns for Fatih Terim, the former Galatasaray coach isn't expected to adjust his team's lineup, leaving all of his team's hopes of success in the same Starting XI as the one that stepped onto the pitch against Croatia.

Did you know...?

  • This will be the first meeting between Turkey and Spain in a major tournament.

  • Turkey hasn't been able to defeat Spain in the 21st century. In fact, the Turks have only won one of their last ten games against La Roja, a World Cup Qualifying match for the 1954 global tournament.

  • Spain's goalkeepers have managed to keep a clean sheet against Turkey in three of their most recent four games.
