The Orlando City ace will join up with the Selecao having last played a full game for the national side in 2012.

Major League Soccer superstar Ricardo Kaka finds himself back in the national side after a long absence from Brazil, as the 34-year-old was given an initially unexpected call-up by coach Dunga for the upcoming Copa America Centenario tournament.

The Orlando City midfielder, having initially made the squad only as a back-up player, is now in the 23-man squad headed for the United States, as he replaces Douglas Costa of Bayern Munich after the Bavarians ace picked up an injury to his left thigh.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid star appeared close to the end of his international career, as he has not played a full 90-minute match for the Selecao since 2012. In addition, he has only played 60 minutes for Brazil in the last three years.

However, he has now been handed a great opportunity to bid farewell to the five-time World Cup champions in spectacular fashion, should they lift the trophy.

Kaka, a present figure in Brazil’s 2002 World Cup triumph in Japan and South Korea, has 91 caps under his belt and 29 goals for the national side in addition to his two FIFA Confederation Cup medals from 2005 and 2009.

The Orlando City ace is one of two Brazilian players to be called up as last-minute replacements, the other being Benfica striker Jonas who had to step in for Ricardo Oliveira.

Dunga’s men will look to the experience of Kaka, as they will face off against Ecuador, Haiti, and Peru in the group stage.
