Perhaps only few remember it… Tottenham Hotspur's Robbie Keane is actually a former Inter Milan player.
So facing his old club in such a vital match for Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League will be emotional and historical for the player at an individual level. In an interview with Sky Sports News, the Irish man – who left the San Siro for Leeds United before joining Spurs in 2002 – recalled old memories.

“I was only a young lad at the time. But, it’s something I’ll never regret,” Robbie Keane revealed.

“I had a great time over there [at Inter Milan]. I really enjoyed it. There were great people over there, so it’s something I can look back on.

“To go over there as a 19-year-old kid, and to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world; that’s one of the greatest times in my life, and something I’ll never forget.

“[Christian] Vieri, [Fat] Ronaldo, [Alvaro] Recoba were all there. They were great players, and by playing with good players every day in training, you obviously learn a lot. And I think it really helped me as a player.”

Since then, Robbie Keane has developed as a player. The Tottenham number 10 player has scored over 100 goals for the London outfit. On Wednesday night, he would want to use the experience he gained in the UEFA Champions League during his time at Liverpool two seasons ago.

Inter Milan are widely poised to win at the San Siro but chances for debutants Spurs to create an upset aren’t that slim either. Although Keane might once again be excluded from Harry Redknapp’s starting XI, he still wishes his side to get a good result in Italy.

“If you look at the squad of players that we have now, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t go there and be confident enough to get a result,” the Tottenham Hotspur striker declared.

“I would be a great game to be involved in. Hopefully, I’ll play some part and it would be nice to score and to help Tottenham get a good result.”

Inter Milan and Spurs both have 4 points in Group A as tonight’s UEFA Champions League match at the San Siro could be decisive.
