Manchester United boast this season’s second-best defense, having conceded only 17 goals in 20 games so far this campaign.
Led by a transformed Chris Smalling, the Red Devils back four have proven difficult to breach, especially when playing at their very own Old Trafford home ground.
Nonetheless, according to the Daily Mail, the 20-time English champions are pondering making a move for out-of-favor PSG center-back Marquinhos.
The Brazilian defender, who arrived at the Parc de Princes for a €31.4m fee from Roma back in 2013, signed a one-year contract earlier this year, keeping him in the French capital until 2019.
However, making only seven starts this season, the 21-year-old admitted his frustration in a recent interview with Journal Du Dimanche, revealing that though a January exit may remain out of the question, he will review his future with the Ligue 1 giants at the end of the season.
“Like everybody, I am always thinking about getting into the starting XI. But you have to respect the coach's decision and that of the board. I will continue to work in order to get my place. But it is true that there will be a moment where I want more. We can not always be used to the bench. Six months remain for me to win trophies and to try to become a starter. After that, we will see what happens,” said the Selecao man.
If, however, Louis Van Gaal’s crew were to land Marquinhos, they will have to fend off interest from rivals Chelsea, who are also rumored to be keeping tabs on the PSG defender.
The Blues, who saw their bid to sign Everton center-back John Stones fail, could benefit from a new defender, having conceded a whopping 29 goals in England, joint with Everton as the league’s sixth worst defense.
Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira and Real Madrid midfielder Isco are two additional players believed to be on Chelsea’s radar.
