Arsenal fans will be delighted by reports that the club is willing to bring in a new player this January.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that the Gunners are planning to sign a new player in the next 10 days. The French manager was speaking during a post-match interview after Arsenal narrowly dismissed Newcastle United by a solitary goal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. But Wenger is not planning to buy more than two players in January.

There are rumours in the transfer market suggesting that the current EPL table-leaders are planning to buy Egyptian Midfielder Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel for around £7 million, according to ESPN FC. The player will, however, need a work permit before the deal sails through.

During the post-match interview, Wenger refused to comment about the ‘’Elneny to Arsenal’’ rumours, but admitted that the North London club is planning to sign a new player in January.

He revealed:

"Hopefully we are capable of doing something in the next 10 days.’’

When asked about the possibility of raiding the transfer market for new players, he explained:

"More than quantity I think it's about quality, because our players will not stay out forever."

"We have Coquelin starting to run, Cazorla hopefully in mid-February. [Mikel] Arteta is back now, so hopefully we can add one, if needed two maximum’’

He added:

"Nobody knocks on your door at Christmas and says 'I have a fantastic player to sell to Arsenal,' so you have to be realistic."

The FA Cup defending champions will be boosted by the return of their star player Alexis Sanchez, who is on the course of full recovery from a hamstring injury. He could return as soon as next weekend against Sunderland in the FA Cup.
