Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is set to make his first Champions League debut for Valencia as a manager since joining the club on Sunday.

The Oranges need nothing less than a victory to advance to the next stage of the Champions League and Neville is the man who is expected to steer them past the group stages. Having taken over at the club on Sunday, Neville had only three days to prepare for their midweek opponents, Lyon.

His new club sit at the third place in Group H and need to dismiss the French giants in order to reach the last round of 16.

During a pre-match press conference, the former England international revealed:

He added:

''Tomorrow night not everything will be in our hands and we have to focus on that match. If it doesn't go our way, that's life."

Interestingly, Neville will be assisted by his younger brother Phil Neville, who was the assistant coach at the Spanish club during Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign. He will bank on his brother’s ability to communicate in Spanish for easier communication with his players.

Last Sunday, Valencia secured a morale-boosting draw against high-flying Barcelona in La Liga at the Mestalla Stadium under interim coach Salvador Gonzalez. Los Che will be hoping to perform even better against Lyon.

The home fans have given their new manager a warm reception in Spain, with reports suggesting that around 3,000 of them came to watch his first training with the squad.
