The German striker was linked to a move away from Die Roten during the past summer, with Manchester United being his supposed destination.

Manchester United will have to look elsewhere for a new striker, as their main target will not be available for some time.

Sources in Germany revealed that Thomas Müller will be extending his contract with Bayern Munich before the end of the month, giving a serious blow to those who wanted to lure the German striker away from The Bavarians.

According to German newspaper Bild, Müller will become Bayern's highest-paid player, with the new deal grating him a £10m fee until the year 2021. His current contract expired at the end of the 2018-2019 season, but Manchester United's intentions of signing him prompted the club to offer him a wage increase.

Müller has scored 17 goals in 14 matches for Pep Guardiola's crew in all competitions.

Last summer, Manchester United was close to signing the German striker, taking advantage of the great relationship between the player and Louis Van Gaal, his former coach. Nevertheless, there was no agreement between the parts, and as the Red Devils continued their approach on Müller, Die Roten's president Karl Heinz Rummenigge asked them to stop, since they would not give in to their pressure.

Bayern Munich currently tops the Bundesliga with an almost perfect run of eleven wins and one draw, while Manchester United is ranked fourth in the Premier League, two points behind league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
