The Brazilian side accused their former player of a contract breach, after he decided to join Barcelona during the summer of 2013.

The 2015-2016 season has proven to be quite complicated for Barcelona, since the team seems to be on the verge of facing another problem off the pitch, as Brazilian side Santos requested a six month ban on Neymar. It is the club's belief that the player entered into a breach of contract when he decided to join Barcelona in the summer of 2013.

The Brazilian team believes Neymar is guilty of "infringing Article 63 of FIFA’s Code of Discipline. In the same document they talk of the player’s 'bad faith' in violating different articles of FIFA’s transfer rules — articles 17(3) and 17(5) to be more specific,” the document reads

Santos had warned the player, Los Blaugranas and the player's father that they would take legal action against them, since they felt "betrayed" by the way Barcelona handled the negotiation. The Brazilian side will also request Barcelona to pay a €55 million compensation for the player's transfer, while Neymar serves a 6 month ban.

Neymar celebrates a goal with Santos a few years ago.

Santos' president Modesto Roma revealed the club handed the request to ban Neymar in May, and even though they consider the player as "one of their own", what he did was wrong and he should be punished for it.

"Things were not done correctly when he was transferred. Despite being one of the team's icons, there are things that he should answer to. There are issues surrounding his transfer that were not done the right way, and you have the Spanish IRS and Brazilian authorities analyzing this case. We feel that FIFA should intervene, as they allowed him to play for Barcelona when things were not clear from the beginning," Roma stated.

A group of FIFA members will study this case in order to determine if Neymar did something wrong prior to his move to Los Blaugranas, but there is no approximate date for the verdict to be revealed.
