When English Premier League giants Manchester City spent £55m on Chelsea outcast Kevin De Bruyne, many wonder whether the Citizens overspent for the Belgian ace.
However, the player took little time to settle, scoring 2 goals and registering 1 assist in his last two games in all competitions for the Etihad side.
And when Manuel Pellegrini’s crew traveled to London to lock horns with north London side Tottenham, the former Wolfsburg ace proved he can shine even in the big game.
With Man City turning up at White Hart Lane, De Bruyne needed only 25 minutes to leave his mark on the game, scoring past Hugo Lloris to break the deadlock in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Finishing a swift counter-attack, De Bruyne was found with a beautiful through pass by Yaya Toure after an excellent solo run from the Ivorian.
Praise for the 24-year-old followed all over Twiiter, whilst a few Jose Mourinho trolls popped up on social media. Check out the best tweets.

Turns out this De Bruyne lad is pretty good at football, if he keeps playing this way he's price tag won't matter

So Jose, care to discuss selling De Bruyne? #CFC #MCFC http://t.co/0IT7Tj60Ht https://t.co/dh5vPOgcTM

De Bruyne already looks a quality signing for #mcfc. Difficult to understand how Mourinho didn't see his talent. 1-0 #mcfc.

Chelsea, we need to talk about Kevin.

With the clock ticking down on the 1st half, the away side look set to enter the break with a 1-0 lead, that is until Eric Dier made it 1-1 thanks to a thunderous striker that snuck past Willy Caballero in the 45th minute.
However, the goal was smeared with controversy as Kyle Walker was offside during the build-up play to the equalizer. De Bruyne appeared to be offside in the opening goal, but fans went hard on the linesmen for their failure to rule out the second goals.
This isn't offside apparently! pic.twitter.com/Aq0Mx1jGDe

First game of the Premier League this week and referees already with an awful mistake. Walker offside by a mile.
— Sergi Domínguez (@FutbolSergi) September 26, 2015
Pathetic officials again @FA 2 offside goals!
— Özilexis (@MesutOzilexis) September 26, 2015
That's actually a joke. Walker is right beside the linesman and so visibly offside. How can he miss that?
— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) September 26, 2015
Walker was miles offside, awful decision!!
— YourMCFC (@YourMCFC) September 26, 2015
City's goal marginally offside - but how does the linesman miss the clear offside in the build-up to Spurs' goal? Right in front of his eyes
— Phil McNulty (@philmcnulty) September 26, 2015
Why are there cries over Tottenham's goal? De Bruyne was offside too.
— Mourinholic (@Mourinholic) September 26, 2015
In the second half, more controversy followed as English striker Harry Kane broke his goal drought from what appeared to be an offside position on the rebound of Christian Eriksen free-kick.

Harry Kane was also offside when he scored the 3rd goal for Spurs. take away 2 of the 4 goals scored from offside today, they'll still win.
— Godwin Aruwayo (@GodwinAruwayo) September 26, 2015
Commentator: Harry Kane was PROBABLY offside. It's difficult for the linesman to see. Now I know why the good book says 'narrow is the way'
— Okhuosi Larry Eghosa (@larryeghosa) September 26, 2015
Harry Kane obviously offside why are these English commentators so purposefully acting like it wasn't obvious. good for him but offside
— Vince Nkawu (@ronaldivinci) September 26, 2015
Harry Kane couldn’t have been offside. He’s English, and an English person invented gravity, so you see, he was onside.
— Aaron W. Gordon (@A_W_Gordon) September 26, 2015
You think Danny?! You think Kane's offside?! "Maybe only a yard". "The linesman isn't really looking at that"?! Please....just shut up!
— Neil Cooper (@NCHammer1980) September 26, 2015
Kane WAS offside for his goal but some freekick by Eriksen. What a player he is! #TOTMCI
— Johnny Gerondis (@JGerondis) September 26, 2015
Kane was offside...that's 3 or 4 goals in this game now that should have been given as offside.
— Mason (@TL_Mason) September 26, 2015
Even the Kane goal was offside
— Osas (@Osaaaas) September 26, 2015
10 minutes praise for Kane's finish and no mention of it being offside. Standard stuff really.
