The Argentine came off the bench and needed only 17 minutes to score the winning goal after his introduction.

A day after witnessing the birth of his second boy Mateo, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi grabbed the winning goal for the Blaugrana in their heavyweight clash with Atletico Madrid.

Despite missing out on Friday’s pre-game training session, the Argentine was declared available for the trip to the Vicente Calderon, but was left on the bench, a decision which had a few worried.

Without the four-time Ballon d’Or winners' flare, the game lacked goals, and headed into half-time in deadlock.

The encounter kicked to life in the second half when Fernando Torres handed Los Rojiblancos the lead with a 51st minute striker, before Neymar equalized four minutes later courtesy of a free-kick. Watch in the VINE below.

With the Catalan giants in search of the winner, on came La Pulga, with Enrique throwing the 28-year-old on to the pitch in the 60th minute.

Messi needed only 17 minutes to find the back of the net, scoring past the Atletico keeper Oblak in the 67th minute, a goal which proved to be the match winner for Barcelona.

Not only did Leo’s goal see the Camp Nou side grab all three points, but also broke a number of records.

Diego Simeone’s crew become Messi’s most favorite victims in La Liga, with 20 goals, and in all competitions, with 24 strikes, tied with Sevilla, surpassing the record previously held by Telmo Zarra.

He also became only the fourth player in the Spanish Primera Division history to register 20 goals against a single opponent. Check out the records set by the Argentine after the 2-1 win in the tweets below.
