Keylor Navas was sitting in a private plane for an hour waiting to know if the David de Gea deal would go through. By the end of the transfer window, the Costa Rican goalkeeper did not leave the runway and returned home where he will face the next season as a player for Real Madrid.
Now, the President of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez apologized in person to Navas, his wife and his agent for the mess that was caused on Monday. The Spanish club said they did everything in their hands to send Navas to Manchester with a salary that would be three times better than the one he receives in Madrid.
Navas had already completed his medical at Valdebebas but apparently Manchester forgot to put his information in the Transfer Matching System and when they did it was a bit too late. The agent of the 28-year old goalkeeper had done everything necessary to help Madrid get things done in time, including reading an 18-page document with the technical specifications of his contract. While they did not agree in some things, they agreed to everything just to get the deal over with.
Now Navas has at least one more year to enjoy in Madrid until a similar situation arises. His contract does not expire until 2020 but at least for now Los Blancos plan to modify some parts of his contract offering Navas a higher salary.
The goalkeeper celebrated the fact that he was staying by doing a solo workout at Valdebebas. It is said that he does not hold any grudges against the club and wants to make the best out of the upcoming season.
