He is the third player to be released from the team in less than 24 hours. Silva played in eight games during the second half of the season.

Lucas Silva has left Real Madrid on a one-year loan to French side Olympique Marseille. The Brazilian player was not able to impress Carlo Ancelotti last season and it seems like if Rafa Benitez did not like him too much either.

He had just joined Madrid during the winter transfer window and only played in eight La Liga games. A defensive midfielder like him had to compete against Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Isco so he was barely picked to play by Madrid's former manager.

Both Madrid and Marseille confirmed the news on Twitter

Benitez hired Mateo Kovacic and Casemiro to add even more competition to the same position and now Silva knew that it would be really complicated to have some playing time with Los Merengues. In the eight games he played, Silva had a 90% pass success rate.

The 22-year-old Brazilian had arrived after playing his early years with Cruzeiro. He had some chracteristics that made him similar to Kaká but was not able to show them playing for Real Madrid. While the Spanish club would have preferred him to stay in La Liga, his time in France could do him well to get more playing time in European competitions.
