In what turned out to be the easiest match for them in the entire tournament, the USMNT defeated Cuba to make it to the Gold Cup semi-finals. Clint Dempsey scored a hat-trick to confirm his chances of winning the tournament's Golden Boot, while Aron Johannson, Omar Gonzalez and Gyasi Zardes also contributed with goals in order to win the match 6-0.
This was the second time in the tournament that saw Los Isleños conceding six goals. Their first outing against Mexico ended up with a similar score, making the Cubans one of the teams with the most goals allowed in a single Gold Cup performance.
Out of the six goals, Johansson's strike stood out, after being handed a long ball near the Cuban's box. The AZ Alkmaar striker proceeded to control the ball, and then he chipped it right over Diosvelis Guerra's head to make fans go wild.

The game's outcome surprised most fans. Even though they knew Cuba was one of the weakest teams remaining, some expected them to put up a little more fight for the Americans, who ended up reaching the semi-finals in style. Here are their best comments after the game ended.

Clint Dempsey's first goal is the FASTEST scored by the USMNT in a Gold Cup knockout stage game.
#OJOALDATO - El gol de Clint Dempsey (a los 4 minutos) es el más rápido de Estados Unidos en TODA la historia de la Copa Oro.
