The Argentinean goalkeeper is one of the possible targets to join Los Blancos if David De Gea is not released by Manchester United this summer.

With the "David De Gea" novel still going, Real Madrid has started searching for options if the Spanish shot-stopper isn't released by Manchester United. With that in mind, Florentino Perez and some of the team's officers have held talks with free agent goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who was Argentina's Number One goalkeeper in the recently concluded Copa América and also in last year's World Cup.

Romero would arrive to Los Blancos on a free transfer, after the goalkeeper ended his second stint with Sampdoria. With David De Gea's deal still on hold, and considering Espanyol is not keen on letting Kiko Casilla go, Real Madrid offered Romero a deal to join them, keeping Keylor Navas as the Number 1 option to take Iker Casillas' place guarding the net.

The Argentinean player, who has performed in the Dutch, French and Italian leagues, was considering the possibility of joining AS Roma, who have allegedly offered a two-year deal to sign with them, but Real Madrid's interest to sign him forced Romero to put the Giallorossi on hold. Furthermore, and following Angel Di Maria's and Marcos Rojo's recommendation, Manchester United would also be eyeing the shot-stopper if David De Gea ends up leaving.

Romero's future may be sorted out soon, since David De Gea is still pushing a transfer away from Man United. If the Spaniard can't sign a deal with Los Blancos this summer, Romero's signing would grant him the chance to play with the Spanish capital team for a year, while De Gea ends his contract with the Red Devils and arrives to La Casa Blanca on a free transfer.
