Van Gaal’s fourth signing of the summer, the French midfielder will move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils beat off interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

What a summer transfer window it is shaping up to be for Manchester United.

The Red Devils, after securing a return to the Champions League, swiftly wrapped up the signing Dutch attacker. Deals for Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian succeeded one another, and now the 20-time English Premier League champions will be welcoming Morgan Schneiderlin to their ranks.

The 25-year-old French midfielder, who made his name at Southampton with seven years at St. Mary’s Stadium, has agreed to an Old Trafford switch on a four-year contract worth £25m just in time to make their US tour.

The player expressed his delight at sealing a move to the Theatre of Dreams, telling Manchester United’s official website:

"I am delighted to be a Manchester United player. Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make. I have enjoyed seven very happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss.

"I’m excited to be starting that journey on our trip to the USA. I know what Manchester United means to fans all over the world and I’m looking forward to experiencing that."

Manager Louis Van Gaal, who is currently rebuilding his team after an average 2014-15 campaign which saw them finish fourth, praised Schneiderlin, saying:

"Morgan is a very talented player with great energy and ability. His skills will complement the players that we already have and I am very pleased that we have been able to complete this deal before the tour to the United States. That training camp will be very important in our preparations for the new season and gives Morgan and the other players a chance to show our fans what they can achieve together."

Further additions are expected, with a new striker and goalkeeper likely to be signed before the window shuts close, as United look to challenge on all four fronts, in the domestic tournaments and in Europe.
