Klinsmann coached the team he now faces in the 2006 World Cup. This will be the last test for the U.S. before the Gold Cup next month.

It was about a year ago that the United States fell short to Germany in Recife, Brazil during the 2014 World Cup by 1-0. This Wednesday in Cologne, Germany, Jurgen Klinsmann does not expect a similar outcome. The former player and coach of the German National Team aims for a win against the number one team in the world.

"We will take the game to Germany. We will try to come out and make another step maybe to a year ago where we were pushed more and more defensively," Klinsmann said

A year ago, the German side dominated the game completely and had possession of the ball for almost 70% of the time. During that game, the United States was not allowed to shoot on goal even once, something that Klinsmann really hopes can change this time around.

"I think every result that we have in Europe or in South America will make us stronger because the belief will get bigger. In order for us to grow as a soccer nation we need to get more consistency in results against teams that are above us."

The United States is coming out of one of the biggest wins in U.S. Soccer history. The Yanks beat Netherlands 4-3 coming from behind in the final minutes of the game while playing in Amsterdam. For the nation ranked 29th in the FIFA World Rankings, that was something to build up from.

"These players (Huntelaar, Ozil and company) that play for the big clubs in the world, in the Champions League here and there are going to punish you with every little mistake."

Germany will use this game to prepare the game against Latvia in the Euro Cup Qualifiers. The German National Team has not lost against the U.S. in home soil the three times these teams have met. Germany is currently on a hot streak remaining unbeaten in their last five games.

Their team features 13 players that were part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup champions. Three players in their roster are part of the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Manuel Neuer is not included in this list.
