Xavi Hernández just won his 25th title with Barcelona on Saturday and will be presented with his new team, Al-Sadd on Thursday. The 35-year-old midfielder is expected to arrive on Monday night at 23:00 hours local time and undergo routine medical exams before the big announcement on Thursday.

Xavi had played all his life with Barcelona but claimed by the end of the season that it was time for him to move on. It was on May 21st that the world learned that the player with the most UEFA Champions League appearances would be leaving the team with which he had his professional debut in 1998.

Xavi is not the first big Spaniard to join the Qatari side, his teammate in the Spanish National Team and rival with Real Madrid for many years, Raul Gonzalez Blanco, played for Al-Sadd from 2012 to 2014. His contract with his new team is for two years but comes with an option for an extension of one more year. Xavi has made it clear that once his time with Al-Sadd is over, the next step would be to work on his coaching license at the Aspire Academy.
