Saturday’s Manchester United vs Manchester City match could be the last Mancunian derby for the Red Devils under the Glazers. Reports say that the Qatar Royal Family will soon take over at Man United.

In December last year, Mirror Football explained that England’s biggest earners in 2011 could emulate local rivals Manchester City by allowing Arab investors to lead the club. The Qatari royal family was mentioned as the ones interested in striking a deal with Manchester United. Apparently, it is nearing completion.
The Glazers have never managed to avoid the spread of their controversial image within unsatisfied Manchester United fans. Now according to the Daily Express, the chairman of Qatar Holdings who is also the prime minister of this Arabic country, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, is looking to expand his acquisitions in the world of business by replacing the Glazers.
Controversy hit football when Qatar won the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Now it is set to continue as FIFA President Sepp Blatter “expects” it to be held in winter against the World Cup’s traditional timing.

As the AFC Asian Cup kicks off on Friday with the Qatar vs Uzbekistan match, Sepp Blatter is in Doha to honour the competition. The 74-year-old Swiss also consumed some of his time earlier this morning to interact with journalists. Discussing about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the FIFA President declared:
“I expect it will be held in the winter. We have time to look at this question. It’s still 11 years away, but we must decide the most adequate period for a successful World Cup – which means, in January or at the end of the year.
“Do not forget, there is still 11 years to go and although we have the basic conditions of their bid for a June and July World Cup, the FIFA executive committee is entitled to change anything that was in the bid.”

Hard luck for England as well as for Spain and Portugal and co.! The 2018 World Cup will be staged by Russia whereas the USA, Australia, and other contenders can forget about hosting the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar.
Qatar beat 1994 World Cup hosts USA, 2002 World Cup co-hosts Japan and South Korea, as well as Australia to win the right to stage the 2022 World Cup. FIFA’s executive committee announced the Arabic nation as the winners after appointing Russia as the 2018 World Cup hosts.
Russia had previously been tipped by analysts to lose the voting contest following Vladmir Putin’s bold accusations of “unfairness” in the bidding competition. The Russians prevailed over England’s bid, and over joint-bids from Spain and Portugal and the Netherlands and Belgium.

If anyone thinks that Wednesday’s friendly between Brazil and Argentina in Qatar is going to be friendly, think again. There is just too much at stake.

The game may be part of Qatar’s promotional campaign to secure the hosting of the of the 2022 World Cup, but pitting these two nations together on a soccer field becomes a matter of South American national pride. As AC Milan’s uncompromising defender Thiago Silva says, “Facing Argentina is special, not just because of the quality of their team, but also because of the rivalry that always makes these games classics.”
Brazil coach Mano Menezes has been putting together a new young squad following the team’s failure at the World Cup in South Africa last summer. However, AC Milan’s 30-year-old Ronaldinho has been brought back into the squad after being surprisingly left out by former coach Dunga for the last few months and is delighted with his return to the fold. After the lows of utter dejection, Ronaldinho commented, “It’s a great joy for me to return. Now I am motivated to stay in the squad. The next World Cup is in Brazil and we all dream about playing in our own country.”
