After another complicated season as Real Madrid's goalkeeper, it seems that Iker Casillas will not be returning with Los Blancos next season. Spanish sources indicate Florentino Perez would offer Casillas a deal to end his contract this summer, in order to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
According to Spanish sites, Casillas would be offered 22.5 million euros to end his current contract with Los Blancos, which extends until 2018. Casillas would be paid €8 millions for the 2015-2016 season, €7.5 millions for the second year, and finally seven millions euros for his last signed season with Los Merengues. If the goalkeeper agrees to this, Perez would offer an additional €3.5 million fee as compensation for his years with the club.
Spanish site El Confidencial also revealed that Casillas had agreed to leave the club prior to the start of the 2014-2015 season, but he changed his mind after the team signed Keylor Navas. To avoid any further complication, Real Madrid decided to part ways with Diego López, who had been Ancelotti's No. 1 goalkeeper in La Liga games last season.
De Gea is still waiting for Real Madrid's offer
While Casillas decides his future, Real Madrid can't take a step forward to sign Manchester United's goalkeeper David De Gea, who has postponed his contract extension with the Red Devils in order to make way for an offer by Los Blancos. De Gea has been linked to the current Champions League holders for quite some time, and rumors surrounding the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper reveal that he will end his stint in England next year. With this in mind, United's officers may have to consider selling the goalkeeper this season, rather than letting him go for free in 2016.
Casillas and De Gea share Spain's goalkeeping duties, and some experts believe it's time for De Gea to take the spot for good.
This weekend, Casillas and De Gea will be together with Spain's National Team, and even if Real Madrid's keeper starts against Ukraine, his future with La Roja and Los Blancos may be put to an end by the hands of the same man in both fronts. The shot-stopper from Móstoles is still thinking about his future, and he's in no rush to decide where he wants to continue his career, although the MLS and Qatar league appear to be the only destinations where he could still be paid the amount of money he's used to collect.
