Giroud missed key opportunities against Monaco during the Gunners' disastrous Champions League match on Wednesday, which made fans destroy the 28-year old striker.

Once again, Arsene Wenger asks mercy for one of his players. Following Arsenal's appalling display on Wednesday night against Monaco, Le Prof tried to shift the focus of criticism away from Olivier Giroud, who was blamed by most of the Gunners' fans for their UEFA Champions League disappointing display.

"He had his chances and he missed them, but on the night everything went against us. The fact he missed some chances is only one characteristic of the night. I hope criticism doesn’t affect him, he’s a strong character and I personally don’t blame him. We lost as a team and he didn’t miss the chances on purpose. It can happen," Wenger stated about the striker.

Despite their disappointing loss on Wednesday, Wenger still believes his team could upset Monaco in the second leg.

"We are still in the competition, we have a difficult task but it’s still feasible. We have played over 180 games in the Champions League. We have fought very hard against Besiktas just to qualify. You could see Besiktas is a good team playing against Liverpool , so we've won some important games," Le Prof added.

Wenger, during the Arsenal-Monaco clash that ended with a 3-1 win for the visitors.

Regarding their match against Everton on Sunday, Wenger admitted he will rotate his squad, since some players could feel the effects of playing too many games in a row. However, the French boss has not decided which of his men will rest against the Toffees.

"I have not made any decision for Sunday’s game. We have to rotate a little bit because there is Sunday and Wednesday games. There will certainly be some changes. Everton have gone through but the Europa League and Premier League are different competition but we know that our strengths at home will be vital to strengthen our position," he concluded.
