The former world champion with Italy in 2006 faces tax evasion problems. His brother and wife are also involved.

Fabio Cannavaro might spend the next 10 months in the most unlikely place for a former soccer star. Cannavaro has been sentenced to time in jail for breaching orders to keep out of his property after it was seized by authorities.

The 41-year-old has been investigated for tax evasion. In October authorities in Naples seized almost 1 million euros worth of goods linked to the retired footballer.

He won’t be making the trip to the penitentiary by himself. His brother Paolo Cannavaro and his wife Daniela Arenoso will be going to jail for six and four months respectively. They have all appealed the decision and can save themselves from time in prison if the appeals court rules in their favor.

Prosecutors claim that the three people involved in the case failed to secure planning permission from the local council to carry out works to the house, garden and pool. All of them later entered the seized property illegally for a dip in the pool.

After feeling on top of the world by winning the World Cup with Italy in 2006, nine years later he is facing a whole different reality. The man who won two league titles with Real Madrid now hopes to win his appeal and save himself from misery.
