Spurs come into this match at the back of two consecutive victories and will be looking to continue the run when they face Sheffield in the league cup semi final. Tottenham were against Sunderland last time out a match they won by a 2-1 score line thanks to goals from Jan Vertonghen and a late winner from Christian Eriksen. Vertonghen should have had another goal but it was controversially disallowed. Pochettino expressed his displeasure over the ruled out goal, also praising his Danish star  Eriksen for rescuing the team once again.

"I think that the referee and the linesman were a little bit confused on the rule because when the pass got to Jan it was before he had got to the opponents' half, and it was a quick action, so maybe the referee was not focusing on the game," he said.

"It was difficult because if it had been 1-1 and this decision had decided the game, maybe I would be in a different mood.

"At 3-1 it would have finished the game but we need to remember that we are all human and we all make mistakes."

"I'm happy for him - he has big, big potential and he's improving every day," the Tottenham coach said when questioned about Eriksen's performance.

"I'm happy for his performance but more happy for the team performance. I think we were better than Sunderland and deserved to get the three points and now we need to look forward and prepare for the [League Cup] semi-final on Wednesday [against Sheffield United]. It's impossible to take time off and we now need to think about it."

Spurs should be vary of their opponents on Wednesday who have developed a knack of pulling off upsets. Sheffield United made their way into the semi final of the FA Cup last season and have this time around recorded wins over the likes of QPR in the FA Cup, also beating Southampton to make their way into the league cup semi final.

Spurs however have performed admirably at home in recent games and are unbeaten in their last nine games at the White Hart Lane. This also includes a commanding 5-3 win over league leaders Chelsea. Sheffield on the other hand will be looking to put things back on track after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of MK Dons last time out.
