The blockbuster fixture for the weekend features an exciting encounter between Arsenal and Manchester City. Whereas Arsenal have been finding it difficult to break into the top four, their counterparts on Sunday are in a fierce battle with Chelsea for the top spot.
The Citizens were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton last time out. Fernandinho scored for the Sky blues in the 74th minute but Everton soon equalised through a goal from Steven Naismith just four minutes later. As a result Chelsea now enjoy a two point lead over their rivals and the Citizens will be hoping for a swift recovery.
Manuel Pellegrini made a statement of intent after securing the signature of Wilfried Bony earlier in the week. However the former Swansea man could be unavailable till mid February should Ivory Coast make it to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Arsenal on the other hand have made a good response following their 2-0 loss at the hands of Southampton two weeks back. The defeat was followed by a 2-0 win over Hull City and a 3-0 win over Stoke last time out. Chilean star Alexis Sanchez was once again the focal point of Arsenal's attack. The former Barcelona man provided the assist for Arsenal's first goal and scored the other two himself.
The Gunners have fared poorly against the top sides in the league and suffered embarrassing defeats last season including a 6-3 thumping at the Etihad last season. However Arsene Wenger is confident that his team can produce a better performance this time around.
"The history will not play a part in this game," said Wenger.
"It is the performance levels on the day that will play the biggest part and the only important part."
"History is history and we are here to change history. We know this is a team who can create chances and our defensive performance will be vital."
"We lost there last year under special circumstances. We missed many chances, we played with 10 men at the end and had to go forward. Also, we had a very difficult trip to Naples three days before [in the Champions League]."
"From every big game you gain confidence when the result is positive. We are focused to go there and give ourselves a chance to win by putting a great performance in.
Mathieu Debuchy suffered an injury in the match against Stoke last time out and has been ruled out for three months. Captain Mikel Arteta has been sidelined for a similar time frame as well. City on the other hand will be without Samir Nasri who has suffered a calf injury and will be out for three weeks.
