The Italian international has failed to hit the ground running so far at Liverpool and could make his exit this month.

After making a £16 million move to Liverpool this summer, Mario Balotelli's return to the Premier League has not gone as planned--for the player, the team, and fans.

The first half of the 2014/2015 season concluded without the Italian striker scoring a single league goal, and he has quickly become the subject of heavy criticism for his disappointing displays at Anfield.

Even Brendan Rodgers, who staunchly defended the former Manchester City man, recently admitted that the 24-year-old was not slotting in well into his team's set-up just last month. And now that the winter transfer window is open, cue the speculations surrounding his future in England.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling has assumed the position as the first choice striker, Daniel Sturridge is looking like he could finally make his long-awaited return from injury, and as per English reports, Divock Origi could be called back from his loan spell with Ligue 1 side Lille.

Interestingly, reports from Balotelli's homeland, namely Tuttomercatoweb, do not link him with a third spell in Serie A. Rather, they have claimed that his next destination could be further east--to Greece.

Olympiakos are the team that apparently have been linked with making a loan move for the forward and as per the report, are seeking to take him on loan for the remainder of this season with the Greek champions set to make a €2.5 million offer to last season's Premier League runners-up.

Still, considering that they spent a decent sum on him this summer, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool could consider loan agreements or would be seeking to sell him outright--whether it's this January or at the send of the season.
