The Red Devils continued their impressive form with a 3-1 win over Newcastle United last time out. Captain Wayne Rooney was the star of the show scoring twice in the first half and later setting up Robin Van Persie for the third. Papiss Cisse did score late in the game but the goal proved to be just a consolation with Man United racing away with all three points.

Their counterparts Tottenham have also been on a fine run as of late having won all of their last four matches. They faced Leicester in an away fixture last time out, a match they won by a 2-1 score line. Harry Kane gave the visitors the lead only in the second minute but Leonardo Ulloa equalized in the second half. Christian Eriksen's 70th minute free kick secured all three points for Tottenham who were rescued by a stellar performance by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham manager Pochettino has now urged his men to carry the winning mentality to a very difficult fixture against Manchester United.

"We need this mentality to go into this game, to be brave, to try to fight in every action and try to play better than them," Pochettino said.

"Manchester United are in a very good moment like us and we have a tough game ahead. We need to be clever and first to rest after a big effort at Leicester [where Tottenham won 2-1 on Friday].

"It will be a great atmosphere, a day for all the families to enjoy and in front of us, another very good team, but we will try to get the three points.

"We have showed character in every game and it's important to keep this feeling."

Angel Di Maria missed the match against Newcastle United after suffering an injury in training and it is unclear whether he will be able to make his return. Belgian duo Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj on the other hand are definitely out of Sunday's fixture due to illness. Daley Blind (knee) and Marcos Rojo (thigh) will also continue to nurse their respective injuries. However Chris Smalling (muscle), Luke Shaw (ankle) and Ander Herrera (knock) could return for the match against Tottenham.

The two sides entertained a 2-2 draw in the same fixture last season. Tottenham scored through an early Kyle Walker goal and a thunderous strike by Sandro. Wayne Rooney leveled the scores  both times with his second coming from the penalty spot.
