The Argentine paid respect to his former Barcelona team-mate after the Frenchman announced his retirement from football.

On Tuesday, one of English Premier League’s greatest ever striker Thierry Henry called an end to his playing career, deciding on hanging up his boots and retiring from the beautiful game all together.

After 915 games and 411 goals, the Arsenal legend called it quits at the age of 37, having graced Ligue 1, Serie A, the English Premier League, La Liga, and then finally, Major League Soccer, where the Frenchman spent four years dazzling the New York Red Bulls crowds.

Tributes poured in for Henry after announcing his retirement, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher calling the Gunners legend “the toughest opponent” he has ever faced, whilst the English Premier League’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer hailed Les Blues striker as "one hell of a player".

The most touching, and most recent of them all, however, comes from former Barcelona team-mate and four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who took to Facebook to reflect on the “amazing moments” he experienced playing alongside Henry, wishing him all the best through his official account.

The Argentine wrote: “My friend, Thierry Henry, I will never forget the amazing moments we have experienced together. I was really lucky to play with you and I wish you all the best. A hug.”
