As the year is coming to an end, Pep Guardiola is beginning to witness the return of his stars. Bastian Schweinsteiger starred in ninety minutes of action packed football against CSKA Moskva in Bayern's final Champions League fixture on Wednesday. He played a full ninety minutes in the Allianz Arena and clearly, at least judging by the expresions on his face during the match and afterwards, enjoyed the outing. Chief tormentor on the night in attack was the priceless Frenchman, Franck Ribery. He earned Thomas Müller a penalty using his trickery. Müller stepped up to the spot and pretended to shoot in one direction; he fooled the keeper by placing a relatively simple shot on to the opposite side.
Following the penalty, Müller wrote his name into the history books by becoming Bayern's highest scorer in the UEFA Champions League. His goal took his tally to 24, one more than the previous record holder, Mario Gomez. The World Cup silver boot winner's night finished at half time when Pep Guardiola decided to rest him. Guardiola also took off Ribery and sent Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski in their spots. Robben tormented the opposition but Bayern did not add a second till late when the wonderful Sebastian Rode scored. Mario Götze capped off the night with a fine finish in the dying seconds to hand Bayern their fifth win in this season's competition
Bayern will take on Augsburg in the Bavarian Derby tomorrow. The relevance of the derby will be higher than usual considering Augsburg sits in third spot, behind Bayern and Wolfsburg. There is no middle ground for Markus Weinzierl's side; they have won eight fixtures this season and lost six, collecting zero draws in the process. They have beaten Borussia Mönchengladbach as well. Augsburg beat Bayern last season, ending their 53 game unbeaten run.
