The Croatian midfielder was removed from the pitch during the match against Italy, which ended up with a 1-1 draw.

Croatian midfielder Luka Modric may be out for six weeks after coming down with an injury to his quadriceps. His recovery time will be detemined later this week after the proper medical tests are performed on the player.

Boris Nemec, head of medical services for Croatia's National Team, spoke about Modric's injury.

"It's not looking too good. We think he's hurt his quads, particularly his left leg. He will undergo some tests when he arrives to Madrid and we will have a pretty good idea about how much time he will be off the pitch, but in my opinion, his recovery time must be somewhere between four and six weeks," the doctor explained.

The player reported today with his club in Madrid. Prior to his medical examination, Modric explained he was already in pain before asking to be substituted.

"I felt something was not OK one or two plays before I asked to be subbed. When I fell into the ground I knew my leg was hurt pretty badly, I felt a lot of pain. I should have not kept on playing, but now the only thing we can do is wait," Modric added.

If Modric takes six weeks to heal from this injury, then the midfielder would miss the Cup World Cup tournament in December, since Real Madrid start competing on December 16. Los Blancos will face the winner of the match between Australian champions Western Sydney Wanderers and Mexican club Cruz Azul.
