Given that both Italy and Croatia were sitting top of their group with nine points, the match between the Azzurri and the Vatreni was an eagerly awaited one for the teams' fans.
All seemed to be going well after goals from Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perisic until the second half when some of the Croatian fans began hurling flares onto the pitch. The mayhem caused the game to be temporarily suspended as riot police had to get the rowdy supporters under control.
