It’s almost impossible to look at the German squad in detail without singling out Thomas Muller for special praises...

Germany's Thomas Muller celebrates his early goal against Argentina. The talented Bayern Munich midfielder is only 20 years of age but he can already look back at his recent achievements with a big smile on his face. Only few may believe that Muller was actually experiencing his 7th appearance for Germany at a senior level when he featured against Argentina in the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The young player – whom could deservingly scoop the 2010 World Cup Best Young Player award – made his mark since the first Match-day with a great goal against the Socceroos of Australia.

Amazingly, Thomas Muller ridiculed England’s defense with a brace against the Three Lions in the Round of 16. In the quarter-finals, he went on to hit the Albicelestes of Argentina with an early goal that help the Germans to set the bar high over the Argentines’ reach as they humiliated them with a 4-0 victory.

Thomas Muller carries Michael Ballack’s number 13 jersey – and surely now, his dazzling performances have comforted all those who mourned the absence of Germany’s injured captain ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Now just as positive Thomas Muller’s influence has been, the Germans will hope that his absence against Spain won’t prove to be negative.

The midfielder, whose tally in the World Cup is of 4 goals at the moment and who is currently the holder of the 2010 World Cup's earliest goal, has been suspended following the yellow card he received against Argentina for controlling the ball with his arm. The public will be curious to see how Joachim Lowe will deal against the Spanish without the services of Germany's 20-year-old midfielder Thomas Muller. For now, the German coach is unhappy about the situation as he publicly avowed:

“The fact that we won’t have him [Thomas Muller] is a huge blow because he has shown how dangerous he is.”

How will Germany’s midfield minus Thomas Muller combat against Spain’s line led by the intelligence of Xavi, the trickery of Andres Iniesta, and the strength of Xabi Alonso? Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger may have the answers to this question.
