The Spanish keeper was rumored to be Real Madrid's target for the next transfer window, but sources indicate De Gea will agree to a new contract with the Red Devils

After being rumored to be in Real Madrid's radar, Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea may end the gossip regarding his future, by signing a new long-term deal with Manchester United. According to sources, De Gea would be signing a new five year contract with the Red Devils, where he would collect £120,000 per week.

If these rumors have any truth in them, los Blancos may have to re-think their approach if they truly want De Gea to join them. The 23-year old goalkeeper has increased his level in the past two years with Old Trafford's side, to the extent of being voted United's Player of the Season, even though they did not manage to earn a spot in any European competition.

Even if Manchester United re-sign the Spaniard stopper, Real Madrid has a history of ignoring such kind of deals. As an example, Cristiano Ronaldo had signed a contract extension months before inking his deal with Los Blancos five years ago.

For now, Manchester United fans may be at rest, since De Gea is seen as a cornerstone in Louis Van Gaal's plan to rebuild the Red Devils to their previous shape.
