Despite signing the Colombian on loan on Deadline Day, Manchester United could send Falcao back to Monaco early.

Despite beating off the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid to sign Radamel Falcao, Manchester United could opt to send the Colombian back to Monaco.

The Red Devils secured the 28-year-old's signature in a £6 million loan deal on deadline day and even had to push for an extension in order to see the transfer go through. However, according to reports, the former Porto man, who is earning approximately £300,000 per week is not a guarantee to remain at Old Trafford for the duration of this season.

Fitness issues: Falcao's knee problem was a serious cause of concern for Manchester United

As a result, the Premier League giants have apparently inserted a clause in his contract that in essence, is a "return to sender" option. Specifically, should he re-injure the knee that saw him unfortunately miss out on participating in this summer's World Cup, the Red Devils could cut his loan short and ship him back to his parent club, Monaco.

Certainly, given how enthusiastic Falcao seemed upon singing with Manchester United after being liked with a return to La Liga all summer, this is something that the player, the club, and the team's legions of supporters will definitely hope to avoid happening over the course of this season.

On the positive side, should he be able to remain injury free and impress while in England, Louis van Gaal will be able to have the Colombian attacker within his ranks on a permanent basis, although for a hefty sum of £50 million.
