The next 21 days will provide Liverpool with a real test as their agenda during that period contains as many as seven games. Resuming the Premier League campaign on home soil should somehow ease Brendan Rodgers' concerns when it comes to fatigue.
The manager must solve multiple problems due to his side's injury list. Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Sturridge, Glen Johnson, Emre Can and Jon Flanagan are all on it. Worrisome indeed but Rodgers remains positive, as he explained:
"This is why it was so important to strengthen the squad during the transfer window. We have options now and that’s key for us. We had a great window in terms of the calibre of players we brought in.
"We signed young players with quality and some with more experience as that’s what we needed."
The good news for Liverpool fans is that marquee summer signing Mario Balotelli is ready to play. The Italian striker, who had to miss Thursday's training session, could be joined on the field by Adam Lallana as Rodgers revealed:
"Mario has had a bit of a bug that we wanted to make sure he didn’t spread around the group. But he’ll be okay for Saturday.
"I think he has felt the warmth of the club since he’s been here and I’m sure he will look forward to playing at Anfield.
"He isn’t the only one. The same goes for the likes of Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana who will also be involved."
Liverpool enter Matchday 4 of the 2014/15 English Premier League season in fifth place behind Aston Villa who are unbeaten with seven points from a possible nine.
