The most recent Arsenal signing scored twice in England’s first Euro 2016 qualifying match.

Danny Welbeck secured the first three points for England as he scored twice in their opening match of the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Switzerland in Basel.

The Arsenal striker scored a right-footed goal in the 59th minute, completing a fast-paced counter-attack from Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling. In the 90th minute, the 23-year-old scored again with a super right-footed finish, following an assist from Rickie Lambert.

It was a hard fought match between these nations. In the first half both teams managed to create chances but none of them could capitalize on it. A great performance from Joe Hart denied the efforts from Switzerland while on the other end Rooney, Welbeck and Sterling missed clear chances.

The second half was similar to what happened during the first 45 minutes but this time England finally managed to capitalize on their chances. Welbeck gave the ‘Three Lions’ the lead in the 59th minute and then sealed the victory with a few seconds to go before the final whistle.

England and Switzerland are located in group E, along with Estonia, Lithuania, San Marino and Slovenia.
