Everton has started the season with two draws; however, if they are not careful, their next match could see them earn no points at all.

Things just have not gone Everton's way in the first two matchdays. They were ahead against Leicester on opening day but failed to hold on and drew 2-2. They then took on Arsenal, an opponent they banished, 3-0, at home last season. Unfortunately, things went wrong in Merseyside after Everton took a well deserved 2-0 lead. Arsenal were poor and really only came to life in the final fifteen minutes but Everton could not shut them out. A late Olivier Giroud goal saw them gain one point instead of three again.

Everton themselves were a bit lucky to get away with the second goal; the goal was scored from an offside position and there was a foul involved in the build up. The referee could have easily ruled it out. Their opponent this week, Chelsea, have had a perfect start to the campaign. They opened with a 1-3 victory over Burnley; their attacking play was extremely impressive in the first half. Unfortunately, the scorer of the opening goal from that match, Andre Schuerrle, might not make it for this one. He went off last weekend against Leicester, a game Chelsea won 2-0. Diego Costa has been passed fit to play.

Everton's injury list is much longer than that of Chelsea. Steven Pienaar, the head of their midfield, is out as is Ross Barkley. Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone are out as well. Romelu Lukaku had to be taken off against Arsenal and is rated doubtful for this weekend. Christian Atsu will not be able to feature as his parent club is Chelsea.

This match will play out much differently for Everton than their game against Arsenal. Arsenal, having endured a long journey from Turkey to England, were tired and almost disinterested. Chelsea will look to expose them from kick off. However, Burnley showed in the opening minutes that Chelsea can be vulnerable and Everton would do well to exploit a lapse or two at the back. Last season, both meetings were tight, with both teams winning out by a single goal in their respective home stadiums.
