A midweek clash will see League One side MK Dons face Manchester United in a Capital One Cup encounter on Tuesday, the 26th of August at the Stadium mk.

The Dutchman is yet to win a competitive match with Manchester United after managing just a single point in two Premier League matches. United lost their opening match against Swansea after strikes from Sung-Yong Ki and Sigurðsson downed the Red Devils.

The 20 time league champions seemed less than impressive in their second outing as they could only salvage a draw against a Sunderland side which flirted with relegation last season. Juan Mata scored his first goal of the season as Valencia’s low cross found the Spaniard’s boots as the Red Devils picked up a lead in the opening minutes.

New signing Jack Rodwell scored a thumping header within 13 minutes to bring the scores level and the match ultimately ended in another disappointing outing for Van Gaal and his men as United failed to make the most out of a relatively easy fixture list.

Robin Van Persie who returned to the side after missing the opener against Swansea City insisted that United will return to their best in due time also lamenting the mistakes his team made during the match against Sunderland.

“Everyone has faith and believes in this club and our players because we have great players because it’s just a matter of time until the points come in,” Van Persie said.

“We lost two points [against Sunderland]. Clearly we came here to win. If you come in front after 15 minutes or so, we should have kept the score for longer. It’s always harsh to concede from a corner.”

“In ball possession we were a bit too sloppy, lost too many balls, making it hard for ourselves.”

MK Dons on the other hand have made a bright start to the League One campaign winning two and drawing one of the four matches they have played so far. The Dons will now be eager to pull off a major upset as they hope to make it to the next round of the Capital One Cup.

The hosts are set to be without defender Lee Hodson (ankle) whereas goalkeeper David Martin (hip) is also a major doubt for the match.
