Luis Nani's second debut for former club Sporting was not a fairy tale return. The 27-year-old missed from the spot, got booked, and was then substituted off

Luis Nani's first game for former club Sporting Lisbon did not go as the player would have hoped.

The Manchester United winger, who signed for the Red Devils from the Primeira Liga side for €25.5m back in 2007, returned to his former side on a season-long deal, which included Argentine defender Marcos Rojo heading the opposite direction for a £16m fee.

And in his second debut game for Sporting, a Saturday encounter with Arouca, the player put in a disappointing performance, failing to live up to expectations of the Leões fans.

In the 63rd minute, Nani was given a golden opportunity to leave his mark on the game after his side was awarded a penalty, one which the 27-year-old stepped up to take.

Unfortunately, the Portuguese attacker saw his attempt from 12 yards saved by the opposing team's goalkeeper, Mauro Goicoechea. Things got worse for the winger after he was shown yellow for a bookable offense, before being substituted off in the 77th minute.

Expectations were high for Luis Nani's second spell with Primeira Liga side Sporting CP

However, the 27-year-old, on loan from Man United, failed to flatter on his first match back with the Leões, being booked, before he was taken off the pitch in the 77th minute

Then there was the disappointing 64th minute penalty miss from the Portuguese winger

The home side though were fortunate enough to catch a break, coming out of the encounter with all three points thanks to a stoppage time winner, courtesy of fellow Portuguese winger Carlos Mane, earning Sporting Lisbon their first victory of the 2014-15 season.

Thankfully, for Sporting, Carlos Mane was able to grab the winner in stoppage time, earning the home side all three points in a slim 1-0 victory
